September 2, 2021, London, UK – Symplectic, specialists in research information management, today announces that University College Dublin and Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington are the first institutions to license its recently launched Research Funding Solution.
Symplectic is a leading global provider of technology solutions that power the research ecosystem and has empowered organisations for over 15 years to collect, curate and showcase their scholarly activities through its flagship research information management platform, Elements.
The Research Funding Solution builds upon the tried-and-tested functionality of Elements to give institutions one centralised space to easily manage both research information and funding workflows, letting institutional clients further reduce the administrative burden on researchers and faculty, derive powerful new insights, facilitate proposal development and demonstrate real-world impact.
University College Dublin (UCD) currently receives €100m in research income per year from a wide variety of funding sources, processing 600 new awards and 300 seed funding applications per year. The extended capabilities of the Research Funding Solution will allow UCD to provide a more streamlined and powerful user experience supporting pre- and post-award activities, including communicating funding opportunities, coordinating internal reviews and approvals, and managing project administration, post award milestones and reporting.
Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington (Wellington University) will extend its current iteration of the Elements platform to incorporate support for research funding management. Wellington University also utilises Symplectic’s public profiles tool to drive discoverability across faculty, research, and activities.
In their role as a development partner, Wellington University has worked closely with Symplectic for over a year to help shape the solution involving numerous stakeholders who provided feedback, described current processes and workflows, and participated in usability testing.
“Our research funding had doubled in the last five years, so the Research Funding Solution will support this growth, ensure process integrity and provide insights into funding successes. Our plan is to continue to iterate, taking a phased approach to the rollout that will allow us to derive maximum benefit from the tool as early as possible while ensuring that the resulting solution is configured to our current and future requirements,” said Danette Olsen, Director, Research Office, at Victoria University of Wellington .
“The strong early interest we have seen in the Research Funding Solution from our client community is testament to enthusiastic adoption of Elements and the high level of service provided by our team,” said Jonathan Breeze, CEO of Symplectic, “This significant addition to Elements continues our drive to support further areas of the research ecosystem, and we look forward to continuing our close partnerships with Wellington University, UCD and other adopting institutions by delivering a highly configurable solution tailored to their unique institutional needs.”
