Symplectic today announces the launch of its Research Funding Solution, a new suite of functionality to support institutional research funding workflows. The suite forms part of the widely adopted Symplectic Elements solution, bringing research information management and research funding activities together in a secure cloud-hosted system.
Symplectic Elements has empowered organisations for more than 15 years to collect, analyse, showcase and report on all of their scholarly activities. The extended capabilities of the Research Funding Solution will support institutions with pre- and post-award activities including communicating funding opportunities, facilitating proposal development, coordinating internal reviews and approvals, and managing project administration, post award milestones and reporting.
“We have developed the Research Funding Solution in direct response to needs expressed by our client community,” said Jonathan Breeze, CEO, Symplectic. “We received feedback that existing tools in use by universities were quite administrator-focused and were not well adopted by researchers. Some had pre-award functionality in a different system to post-award functionality, making reporting across the grants lifecycle onerous, and many were not well integrated with other institutional systems. We realised we had an opportunity to offer something completely new in this space, leveraging the existing strengths of our Elements solution, such as its integration and reporting capabilities and its user-friendly design, which sets it apart from other administrative software.”
Developed in partnership with nine universities, the suite will further solidify Elements as an invaluable system for fostering cross-institutional collaboration, raising visibility of academic achievement, and allowing administrators to effectively support researchers through key research processes.
Listening to a range of stakeholders at each partnering institution, Symplectic focused its development on addressing many of the pain points experienced by researchers and administrators throughout the funding lifecycle. Despite the wide availability of software solutions in this area, Symplectic heard about a need to provide better visibility of funding opportunities, in progress proposals and project statuses, customisable proposal forms that cater to a range of different funding scenarios, and consolidated reporting available to multiple stakeholders.
In response, Symplectic has created a flexible and scalable solution that can be tailored to the needs of individual research institutions. Kate Byrne, VP Product Management at Symplectic, said: “The Research Funding Solution introduces much needed consolidation of various research management activities within an engaging and intuitive user interface developed in close consultation with researchers and administrators. Our focus for Elements remains the reduction of manual effort, while increasing visibility and access to information and generating trustworthy data for reporting. It is key for us that the Research Funding Solution saves time and effort for both researchers and administrators and that processes are tailored to support the multiple kinds of funding activities prevalent at research institutions.“
The Elements Research Funding Solution will be rolled out iteratively, with functionality updates scheduled throughout the year.
