We look forward to welcoming representatives from across our European client-base to our annual European User Conference, which this year will take place at Bloomsbury House in the heart of Bloomsbury, London.

Now in its 10th year, this annual gathering of Symplectic’s European user community will include a perfectly blended combination of presentations and demonstrations provided by those responsible for Symplectic’s products at our client’s sites, as well as interactive workshops run by the Symplectic team.

This event is open to colleagues from institutions currently using or implementing Elements, as well as institutional representatives wishing to learn more about our products and services.

It promises to be an excellent day out from the office!

10.00 Welcome and Company Update
10.20 Elements Stories: Managing System and Business Change
A panel comprising representatives from Symplectic’s user community will share their experiences of addressing system and business change with Elements, followed by Q and A.

11.45 Going Public with the Elements Discovery Module 
Members of the Symplectic team will introduce the Elements Discovery Module, a new public search and discovery layer for existing Elements user profiles.During this session, delegates will learn how they will be able to make use of the new module, as well as hear from a client that included the deployment of the Discovery Module as part of their recent Elements implementation.
12.25 Data Privacy and Use of Personal Data Captured in Elements
Members of the Symplectic team will provide an overview of current and future data privacy options made available to users of Elements.This session will be of particular interest to Symplectic clients who use data captured in Elements in public web pages, including VIVO, Profiles RNS, internal content management systems and (once released) the Elements Discovery Module.

13.45 Parallel Stream 1: REF Session (13:45 to 15:15)
Members of the Symplectic team – along with representatives of the REF Steering Group – will explain how the Elements Assessment module is supporting institutional REF 2021 preparations.This session will be particularly relevant to those responsible for collecting and managing data within Elements in support of the REF. It will also include an overview of how the Elements Assessment module will be modified to support the management of data by Unit of Assessment (UoA).
13.45 Parallel Stream 2 Part a: Open Access & Elements (13:45 – 14:15)
An exploration of how Elements supports Open Access activities featuring a presentation from a member of the Symplectic User community and an update on new functionality and future development plans from Kate Byrne, Senior Product Manager at Symplectic.This session will be particularly relevant to those responsible for collecting and managing data within Elements in support of the REF. It will also include an overview of how the Elements Assessment module will be modified to support the management of data by Unit of Assessment (UoA).
14.15 Parallel Stream 2 Part b: Demystifying the Reporting Database (14:15 – 15:15)
This session will explore various aspects of Elements’ reporting capabilities, including a number of short tutorials aimed at Elements clients who wish to make greater use of the Elements reporting database.

15.35 Unconference Discussions
Informed by feedback received following last year’s user meeting, delegates will be invited to join a number of ‘unconference’ discussions suggested and voted on by delegates during the course of the meeting.Please do put your thinking caps on ahead of the meeting and come prepared to lead discussions that you believe might be relevant to fellow delegates.
Symplectic’s staff will be on hand to both support and participate in discussions.
16.30 Insights in Symplectic Product Development
Members of the Symplectic product team will provide a brief overview of ‘how’ Elements development activity is prioritised, as well as explain how we plan to allow our clients to more actively participate in future product development activities.
