The research lifecycle by its very nature is information-heavy, which translates into a lot of form filling, data entry, and administration – whether that is carried out by the library or the research office, or by faculty and researchers themselves. The outputs and metadata surrounding research present an information management challenge: how can we control and manage our research and scholarly information, how can we make it discoverable so it can be utilised to the best benefit of society, and how can we track and gain actionable insight into it?
Research administrators, the unsung heroes behind the scenes, are celebrated today on Research Administrators Day for their tireless dedication, unwavering commitment, and vital role in advancing the realms of science and knowledge.
Set up by our friends at NCURA, Research Administrator Day is an occasion created to recognise the role of the research administrator and celebrate the contributions they make in powering the research ecosystem. It’s not just about acknowledgement; it’s about celebrating the driving force that they represent in the world of research.
Research administrators juggle complex tasks, from managing grants and budgets to ensuring compliance with regulations. They promote and enable efficiency, ensuring that researchers can focus on their work without unnecessary distractions.
Celebrating Research Administrator Day
Symplectic was founded with the aim of reducing the administrative burden on both researchers and research administrators, in order to free up space for them to do what they do best. We have been working closely with research administrators for over 20 years, and have seen first-hand the invaluable contributions and tireless efforts they make every day.
In our new KU Leuven case study, released today, we hear from Nick Poels (Publication Repository Manager) and Dieuwertje Bloemen (Product Manager of RDR & Lirias) on how they have integrated Symplectic Elements with Dataverse to create a seamless repository workflow. It’s a window into the type of data complexity that these unsung heroes of the research ecosystem can often be found working on behind the scenes. Read here |

We’re also excited to be presenting today as part of the Canadian Association of Research Administrators CARA UNITE 2023 webinar, where our Solutions Consultant Nick Anderson will be presenting alongside Maya Collum, Project Manager – Research & Innovation at the University of Toronto, on U of T’s new DiscoverResearch portal. |
However you’re marking the day, let us all express our heartfelt gratitude to these dedicated professionals who operate behind the curtains. We thank them for their unyielding dedication, their relentless pursuit of excellence, and their unwavering support for the advancement of science and society.
