Today marks exactly 10 years to the day since Symplectic Elements began integrating with Figshare, and since it’s Valentine’s Day today as well as #LoveDataWeek, we thought this would be a good time to shower them with appreciation and reflect on what makes Elements and Figshare work so well together ?.

How do Elements and Figshare work together?
Figshare has become an indispensable tool for academics to store, share and cite all of their research, including non-traditional outputs. Through powerful bidirectional integration with Elements, institutions utilising both platforms can streamline their publication deposit and open access workflows, provide unparalleled access to their institution’s research outputs and data, and gain a comprehensive view of the entire scholarly activity ecosystem.
Elements identifies suitable research outputs which are not yet openly available, and lets researchers easily deposit them to Figshare directly from Elements with the push of a button. Not only does Elements make it simple for your researchers to deposit files to your institutional repository, it also offers reporting tools and dashboards allowing administrators to identify work that should be made openly available, monitor open access engagement and compliance, and take actions on researchers’ behalf.
Institutions can define open access workflows within the system to automate which publications are targeted for deposit, record exceptions, and create reports on compliance at a researcher, department or group level. Elements will automatically prompt researchers to deposit target publications to Figshare and guide them quickly and easily through the process, simplifying workflows for academics and administrators, increasing deposit rates, and removing the need for duplicate data entry.
Publications deposited directly into Figshare will be automatically harvested by Elements, creating a new record or being linked to an existing record, retaining a consistent, comprehensive and current picture of all of a researcher’s publications.
